tumblr はブログエントリーのなかにコンテンツをとりこんでしまう（使い方によっては著作権的に問題が発生する可能性がある）。そのほか、ReBlog といって、いったんほかのユーザがクリップしたエントリーを再度クリップする行為が、作法として認められている。それによって情報の伝搬がはかられるし、どれだけ注目されているかのバロメーターにもなる。

ふつうのブロガーはライターとしての役割をつとめることになるけど、tumblr では編集者としての役割をつとめることになる。目利きとして、有象無象のコンテンツのなかからこれはというものを選び出し、もっとも効果的な形で提示するのだ。実はライターより編集者のほうが創造的な職業ではないかと思ったりもする。ブロガーはライターと書いたけど、実際のところ、人気のあるブログを書いている人は、むしろ編集者としての力量にすぐれた人が多いような気がする。
